Your core is more than your abs
May 21, 2026Somewhere along the way, the word “core” got reduced to six-pack abs, endless crunches, and workouts that leave your neck hurting more than your body feeling stronger.
Meanwhile, many women in midlife are walking around frustrated because their bodies suddenly feel different. Their balance feels off. Their back gets cranky during yoga practice. Transitions feel harder than they used to. Strength feels inconsistent. Breathing gets shallow the second something challenging shows up.
And because most fitness spaces still approach the body like it’s a machine made of separate parts, people keep trying to “fix” the problem by isolating muscles instead of understanding how the body actually works together.
That’s exactly why I created the Mastering the Midlife Core Workshop inside the Tori G. Yoga Online Studio.
Because your core is not just your abs.
Your core is a pressure system.
It’s the relationship between your diaphragm, pelvic floor, deep abdominal muscles, spine, breath, and nervous system all working together to create support from the inside out.
When that system is working well, movement feels lighter, stronger, more connected, and more stable. You stop feeling like you’re muscling your way through life and start feeling like your body is actually supporting you again.

And here’s the interesting part…
Most women have never been taught this.
They’ve been told to “engage their core” without anyone ever explaining what that means or how to do it in a way that actually translates into movement.
Inside the workshop, we break that down in a practical and understandable way.
We explore how the diaphragm and pelvic floor respond to each other. We look at how breath changes stability. We work with the deep muscles that support your spine instead of only focusing on superficial strength. We uncover why certain postures feel unstable, why some transitions feel scary, and why your body compensates when the pressure system isn’t organized well.
And then we apply it.
Because I’m far less interested in memorizing anatomy terms than I am in helping you feel the difference in your own body.
This is the kind of work that changes everything from inversions and arm balances to walking, hiking, lifting groceries, getting up off the floor, and feeling powerful in your everyday life.
You begin to realize your body was never “failing you.”
It simply needed better information.
That’s one of the biggest shifts I’ve witnessed in women over 40 who practice inside this space. They stop approaching movement from fear and start approaching it from understanding. Their confidence grows because they finally know what they’re doing and why they’re doing it.
And ironically, that often creates more freedom inside the practice than chasing flexibility or forcing poses ever could.
Because strength feels different when it comes from connection.
Mobility feels different when the body trusts itself.
Your practice feels different when you understand how to support yourself from the inside out.
That’s the real work.
And it matters far beyond yoga.
