3 Ways Forearm Balance Changed My Life

When I arrived at my first yoga class ever in 2005 it was a whim of a 28-year old wishing to feel lighter for a dance audition I had the next day. 

But, I caught the yoga 'bug,' or addiction, pretty quickly and developed insane flexibility. 

My back bend was crazy deep and my pride and joy. 

Fast forward to 2016 when I finally knew that I needed to develop strength in my yoga practice or give it up entirely. 

I was broken and would limp out of the studio, my low back and hips aching from constantly being asked to be flexible and never strong. 

Enter inversion and arm balance training. 

It took me two years to be able to press up into a Headstand instead of kick up against the wall. 

But, taking on Forearm Balance was something else entirely. 

Working toward Forearm Balance has completely changed my practice, my life and how I see myself. 

Here is how a mere yoga posture has help me build what I so desperately needed in my life: 

1. It gave me strength. Strength in ways no other posture - not even working on Handstand - have given me. 

The exercises and drills that are required to find and develop the muscles needed to achieve float in this posture have given me actual abs, shoulder muscles, and the ability to pick up just about anything I need to, unassisted. 

I used to think the tops to my Jeep were SO heavy. Now when I take them off to enjoy a breezy ride, they are light as air. And, I thank Forearm Balance for that kind of freedom. 

2. It gave me confidence. I stand taller after I work on Forearm Balance. My shoulders are back and down and my core engaged. 

And, I not only appear confident - I feel it. 

Not many women my age are working towards floating in a Forearm Balance, but I get the opportunity to do it! I think that's super cool. Not only the goal of the yoga pose, but the fact that I am lucky enough to have the time (a minimum of 10-minutes a day is all it takes) to pursue it. 

So, if you think I'm overly confident or "too much," blame Forearm Balance. 

3. It gave me a quest. Did you know that research has reported that people that have a quest they are wishing to fulfill are happier overall with their life? 

So, if you don't have a quest, or big goal... maybe Forearm Balance can be yours? Or, be one of them. 

Why? Because you start to look for more information on the posture, seek out people that know more than you about it, and, therefore, get to meet and hang out with super cool humans. 

(My husband and I have another quest to eat at all of our favorite celebrity chef's restaurants. And, we've already knocked four off our list since beginning 3 years ago. It makes vacation or even a random road trip so fun because we're always seeing if we can find another restaurant on the list.) 

So, have a quest. Have two. Have TEN. 

They will bring happiness and fulfillment to your life unlike any promotion at your job. I promise. 

So, there you have it. Three ways that Forearm Balance has changed my life. 

And, there are probably so many more.
