Your Inner Circle... Matters
Aug 10, 2024This week we hung up a picture of the Flatirons in Boulder, Colorado in our bedroom. It's a huge sweeping photo we captured from the top of the opposite mountain. And, I remember standing in that spot, the hair on my neck standing on it's end because it was so out of this world stunning.
And, now when I go to bed or wake up and see it first thing in the morning I can't help but think of it as the mountain that changed everything.
Over the past couple of years, my husband had put on some weight.
When we were making the climb up the Flatirons last summer, he struggled to make it to the top.
I had always joked with him that I didn't mind if he was not in the best shape as long as he can still make it up the mountain with me. (Hiking is a passion we have shared since we first met when I was 18 years old.)
And, he told me later that summer, it was the first time he wasn't sure if he could make it up that mountain.
It woke him up.
So, over the next couple of months he changed his eating habits, gave up any kind of alcohol, practiced intermittent fasting, and started run/walking with the dog.
By January the weight was flying off of him.
And, now he's dropped upwards of 60 lbs.!!!
This summer he challenged my fitness level on the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. (He seriously kicked my butt!)
He said it was a huge goal to have a much different experience hiking on the mountains this summer. And, I was smiling the entire way up to the top as I watched him climb like he was thirty-five again.
My husband said he was influenced by my fitness level last year and wanted that for himself.
And, around April the changes he made inspired me to make some changes of my own.
I shared with you around that time that I was diving deeper into my meditation, up-leveling my own yoga practice and dropping all alcohol (I used to love a glass of wine a couple of times of week with dinner).
I inspired him. And, he inspired me... to do better, to BE better.
To date I've lost 20 lbs. I didn't even know I had to lose. And, I feel better in my body and mind than ever before.
Being around people that are working to be the best version of themselves, matters.
It is often said that each of us is the sum of the four people that we spend the most time with.
If you're reading this and wanting to make big changes in your life, take a good look at your inner circle of friends and family.
Spend more time with the people working to create their best life and maybe less time with people that are playing victim to their life
You'll see a huge shift in how you feel and the choices you make.
And, who knows what changes you'll experience?
I had no idea that I wasn't feeling at my absolute best until I arrived at the place I am now.
So, be excited to see the changes.
You can create the most amazing life for yourself. Go get it!
Big Hugs,
Tori ♡
